I played around with this thought for a long time but decided to keep on smoking. I started work on a building site when I was 21 to get some cash for my final year of uni. On there seemingly everyone smokes, and I found that 10 fags had crept up to 20, sometimes 25, and even more on a night out in the town. I realised how much money I was throwing away pretty quickly. That was six months ago and just about 3 weeks ago I decided enough was enough, and I was going to stop. I hadn't set a date or anything. I ended up waking up on the following Monday morning for work and I had no cigarettes, and the only money I had on me was to get me to the office in Glasgow. I thought "I'll get fags at the train station", by the time I got there I had no time. So it was, "I'll get them in Glasgow." But, as per usual, the trains were late, and to cut a long story short I ended up going for 3 hours in the morning without a cigarette. Morning's were always undoubtedly the worst for my cravings and I thought to myself, "Might as well keep going...!" Anyone can give up smoking if they want to. Planning will help, for me though I had the reality that most of my family have died of the typical west of Scotland lifestyle. Booze, bad food... and fags! I don't want to be part of another statistic, and neither should any of you. Its only been two weeks, my lungs have cleared, my sinuses are clear, I have boundless energy, I can taste my mum's cooking again, and the girlfriends happy because she has more of my money to spend. There's no way I'll ever pick up another pack of fags.” |
